Unlocking Potential: How Therapy Can Empower Children & Young People
It’s been a while since my last blog—thank you for your patience during these busy months! As someone who began their mental health journey as a child, I’ve long been aware of the challenges young people face in finding the right support and understanding. This has driven my passion for helping children and young adults navigate their mental health more effectively.
I’m excited to share some new developments with you. Many of you already know that I work extensively with children and young adults, alongside clients of all ages. Recently, I completed a course called "Hypno4Children," which I added to my therapeutic toolkit to better connect with and help young minds. What I gained from this course went far beyond just hypnotherapy techniques—it provided new perspectives on how to communicate and address the unique mental health needs of children.
The Rising Need for Early Mental Health Support
Mental health challenges among young people are more common than we often realize. While it’s encouraging that mental health is becoming a more open conversation, it’s crucial that we continue to push for earlier intervention. Addressing issues early can prevent complications, reduce stigma, improve long-term outcomes, and enhance the overall quality of life for young people.
The Power of Early Intervention
In my practice, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact that early intervention can have. Through the use of hypnotherapy and EMDR with children and young people, I’ve witnessed significant successes. This inspired me to expand my knowledge, leading me to the "Hypno4Children" course. One of the valuable insights I gained was the concept of reframing negative thoughts as "Wonky Thoughts," a term inspired by Aaron Beck’s cognitive therapy work. Rather than labeling these thoughts as "bad" or "negative," it’s essential to teach children that these emotions aren’t wrong—they just need a bit of adjustment.
New Tools for a Brighter Future
The course also introduced me to several other powerful tools, such as the "Brain House," the "Cheerleader," and the "Wellbeing Toolbox." I’ve since adapted these concepts and developed my own techniques to better help my clients. These tools are designed to help children understand and manage their emotions in a positive and constructive way, empowering them to take control of their mental health journey.
Moving Forward: A Commitment to Mental Health Awareness
My goal is to continue expanding knowledge and awareness around mental health, particularly for young people. This is just the beginning of an ongoing effort to provide the best possible support for children and young adults. By sharing these insights and tools, I hope to contribute to a world where mental health is understood, supported, and nurtured from a young age.
Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
